Grieg was greatly inspired by the national folk tradition of Norway and as a result his music soon developed a refined, lyrical style. In 1867 he produced a set of miniature pieces for piano consisting of eight short movements in contrasting moods. Over the course of his life he wrote nine further collections under the same title. The pieces chosen for this book are representative of the beautifully constructed movements in Lyric Pieces and will, hopefully, allow the warm and expressive qualities of the trumpet to be expressed.
